CELEBRATION TOURS PRESENTS:
Fall Train Ride with Buttonwillow Dinner Theater
NOVEMBER 1-2, 2017
This “overnight” tour includes a 3 1/2 hr. Hiwassee River Rail “TRAIN” Adventure along fifty scenic miles with breathtaking views of the Hiwassee River Gorge where you will ride around an engineering marvel: The Great Hiwassee Loop. At the top you will see how the tracks corkscrew over themselves as they climb the mountain. BUT - first, before we begin this journey, we shall spend part of DAY ONE arriving in Chattanooga via our motor coach with time for you to visit “on your own” either the Tennessee Aquarium, the IMAX theater, shop the “Moon Pie General Store” or simply enjoy a free ride on the CARTA shuttle up & down Broad Street or across the river to the North Shore.
Later that evening we will enjoy a full meal and live performance at the Buttonwillow Dinner Theater. We will be served “confederate white house recipes” while seated in the beautiful antebellum hall at the old Buttonwillow Church after which you will witness a humorous and dramtic encounter between an East TN Unionist and his Confederate brother.
DAY 2: Following a hotel breakfast, we will board our bus and travel to Etowah, TN. We will first visit the restored L&N Depot & Museum before enjoying our relaxing afternoon ride on the train. The train travels across the “Old Line,” a railroad that was carved into the mountains and river gorge in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Hiwassee River Gorge is another striking feature. Tucked into a wilderness area, this natural wonder is accessible only by rail. The Gorge has received the USDA National Forest’s highest ranking for scenic beauty.
